Yes, our alone prayer time with our Lord is a very important part of growing closer to Jesus every day. What a great privilege it is to have this direct access to Jehovah God!

Here are just a few quick references in God’s Word for how praying will help us grow in our relationship with the Lord.

Hebrews 4:14-16 “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” (Jesus is truly our great high priest. We need no other. It helps us be close to Jesus to know that while He was here on this earth, He was tempted of the enemy, but showed us how to overcome by speaking the Word of God, at which the enemies must flee. His Word is quick/alive.)

Luke 11:1-10 “And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. (God is Holy) Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. (Provision) And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. (Forgiveness) And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. (Delivered by God’s power, none of our own) And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. (Inconvenient) I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth. (Be persistent and consistent.) And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (There is a constant battle going on within the child of God between our flesh and our spirit. We must stay in very close contact with our Saviour to have victory over temptation. I so look forward to eternity in Heaven where there will be no more temptation nor sin!)

And let us not forget the prayer at the time of Salvation! Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved”

“Dear God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve Hell for my sins. I know Christ died and rose again to save me and that you offer me the gift of eternal life. I now accept that gift and ask Christ to come into my heart and save my soul.”
