Do You Know Him Today!?

Please Don’t Turn Him Away!

Recognize your condition – “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23 No one is good enough to go to Heaven on his own merit. No matter how much good we do, we still fall short.

Realize that there is a penalty for sin – “For the wages of sin is death…” Romans 6:23 Just as there are wages for good, there is punishment for wrong. The penalty for our sin is eternal death in a place called Hell.

Believe that Christ died for you – “But God commendeth His love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8 Christ’s great love for us was shown when He died on the cross to pay our debt to sin.

Trust Christ alone as your Saviour. “For the wages of sin is death; BUT THE GIFT OF GOD IS ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD.” Romans 6:23; and “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13 Everlasting life is a gift purchased by the blood of Jesus and offered freely to those who call upon Him by faith.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:9-10

If you do not remember a time in your life when you asked Jesus to be your Saviour and Lord, please do so now and let me know so I can pray for you.

Pray now and confess that you are a sinner, and ask God to save you, and believe that you will receive Christ as your Saviour!

“I Will Answer”

Psalm 91:14-16 “Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.” (Part II of D.L. Moody’s Sermon “The Ninety-First Psalm”)

II. “I Will Answer” “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him.” There is a chance for all of us to call. The great God that made Heaven and earth has promised, “I will answer him.” If you call on God for deliverance and for victory over sin and every evil, God is not going to turn a deaf ear to your call. I do not care how black your life has been, I do not care what your past record has been, I do not care how disobedient you have been, I do not care how you have back-slidden and wandered; if you really want to come back, God accepts the willing mind, God will hear your prayer, and He will answer.

Listen to the prodigal: “Father, I have sinned!” That was enough; the father took him right to his bosom. The past was blotted out at once. Look at the men on the day of Pentecost. Their hands were dripping with the blood of the Son of God; they had murdered JESUS CHRIST. And what did Peter say to them, “It shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Look at the penitent thief. It might have been that when a little boy, his mother taught him that same passage in Joel, “It shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” As he hung there on the Cross, it flashed into his mind that this was the Lord of glory, and though he was on the very borders of hell, he cried out, “Lord, remember me,” and the answer came right then and there, “To day thou shalt be with me in paradise.” In the morning associated with thieves; in the evening, associated with the purest of Heaven. In the morning, cursing – Matthew and Mark both tell us that those two thieves came out cursing; in the evening, uplifted on high, an inhabitant of Heaven. In the morning, as black as hell could make him; in the evening, not a spot or wrinkle. Why? Because he took God at His word.

My dear friend, if you are unsaved, you just call upon God now, and here is a promise, “I will answer him.”

A few years ago an old returned missionary went to one of our leading hospitals to have a surgical operation performed. He was to go under ether, and it was doubtful whether he would come out or not; he might wake up in another world. He bade adieu to his friends, gave them his farewell blessing – he was a very Godly man – and when the doctor said, “Well, we are ready,” he faced them, and with a calm look, he said: “Would you just wait a minute?” Then he lifted his voice in prayer, “Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I should die before I wake, I pray the Lord my soul to take.” Then, opening his eyes, he said, “Doctor, I am ready,” and passed under the knife, and out from under it into health.

My dear friends, it is a sweet privilege to pray; it is a sweet privilege to be in touch with Heaven, to be in communion with the great God that made Heaven and earth. “I will answer him.” I suppose there is not a Christian in this audience but can say Amen to that. You can say God has answered in the past, and you believe He will do so again. Some people say they cannot call. Perhaps you cannot make an eloquent prayer – I hope that you cannot – I have heard about all the eloquent prayers I want to. But you can say, “God, be merciful to me, a sinner…” Only be sincere, and God will hear your cry. Mark you, there is a sham cry. Mothers understand that; they know when their children cry in earnest, or whether it is a sham cry. Let the child give a real cry of distress, and the mother will leave everything and fly to her child. I have been forty years in Christian work, and I have never known God to disappoint any man or woman who was in earnest about their soul’s salvation. I know lots of people who pretend to be in earnest, but their prayers are never answered.

Please DO NOT Wait! The Time Is Now!

I call to all who have been or are being deceived by satan and the false doctrine of his minions. There IS a Hell and you will spend ETERNITY in its torment if you continue to reject the Saviour we all need in Jesus Christ.

This is my plea today and every day till my death for those who continue to WAIT…

“Prayers: Too Late”

“Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.” Jeremiah 7: 16 (Something our country must understand before it’s too late.)

“There are two great prayer meetings in the Bible, where none of the participants got their requests. One took place in Hell (cf. Luke 16:24) and the other will be in the future, and will include some very important people (cf. Rev. 6:15-17). The rich man was praying to a saint, Abraham; and the people in the Tribulation are praying to rocks and mountains. Isaiah said these were “…a god that cannot save” (Isaiah 45:20).”

“It is a tragic station to arrive at when God has been so ignored that He will not acknowledge one’s prayers. P. T. Forsyth said, “Prayer is the greatest use of language possible.” Prayer is the key that unlocks the vaults of Heaven for the needy saint. Prayer is the prospector that discovers the golden vein of spiritual prosperity. Prayer is the powerful, personal possession of the redeemed. Prayer was the main course of study and lesson the disciples desired to learn (cf. Luke11:1).”

A young woman lay dying and said to her father, “why did you not tell me there was a lost world?” “Oh,” he replied, “God is merciful; there is not such place as Hell.” “Ah! But I know there is,” she moaned, “I feel it now, my feet are slipping over the brink. Why did you not tell me?

You may be careless in your prayer life, but conscience will awake sooner or later–Don’t wait too late to pray!” —Dr. Tim Green

It is totally your choice:

Eternity in Heaven with the Saviour OR Eternity in Hell and torment with satan!! ETERNITY IS FOREVER!

Doctrine of Death – Part 7

the gates of hell

the gates of hell (Photo credit: mararie)

XI. What happens when New Testament Sinners Die? Jesus continued to propound the doctrine of hell throughout His public ministry. He strongly warned people to repent, to be sure they did not go there. Matthew 5:22 – “But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.”

Matthew 5:29-30 – “And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.”

Matthew 10:28 “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

Matthew 18:8-9 “Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.”

Matthew 23:33 “Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?”

I could list many other verses here. These are just a handful from Matthew. Those who die today without Christ, join those of old who died without faith in the Lord. They are suffering in hell, which is located in the lower parts of the earth. I recently saw a news clip on the television of some protestors where and a man was dressed like a cartoon satan – all red with horns, etc. He held a sign saying something like, I can’t wait to party with satan in hell. How very sad that some are so horribly deceived by God’s enemy.

XII. What happens when New Testament saints die? First, our bodies go into the grave awaiting the resurrection. Note the differences between our current bodies and our resurrected bodies: “But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? and with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain: But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy; the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.” (1 Corinthians 15:35-49)

Heaven

This new glorified body will be created anew at the instant of the rapture. 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 –  “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

One of my very favorite passages of Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 – ” But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”

Philippians 3:20-21 – “For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.”

Second, Saved Saints’ spirits and souls go upward to be with God in Heaven immediately upon our death. There is no soul sleeping or waiting. Remember, when Jesus died, His spirit went immediately up to the Father in Heaven. Jesus never ceased to exist. His physical body died. His soul and spirit did not. His soul went into hell – Acts 2:27, 31 – “Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption;” “He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.” His spirit went up to the Father – Luke 23:46 – “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.” Likewise, our spirits and souls go upward to be with God immediately upon our death.

Ecclesiastes 3:21 – “Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?” Ecclesiastes 12:7 – “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.” Philippians 1:21-23 – “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:” 2 Corinthians 5:6-9 – “Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.”

Old Testament saints sent into Hades (Abraham’s Bosom) for a time of rest. We covered this under Point IX. New Testament saints go directly to heaven upon their death – Luke 23:42-43 – “And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.” John 14:3 – “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. Jesus’ words in John 17:24 – “Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.” 2 Peter 1:11 – “For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

Just a thought: If the Old Testament saints were emptied out of Hades and taken to Heaven, and the New Testament saints go directly to Heaven, then seances (the practice of bringing up saints or departed loved ones) are a farce. I believe it is highly likely that those so-called spirits they are calling up are demons.

XIII. Conclusion of The Doctrine of Death – What is the Second Death? The second death is mentioned in three texts of the Book of Revelation:

Revelation 2:11 – “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.”

Revelation 20:6 – “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.”

Revelation 20:11-15 – “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

The first death is a physical death, when the spirit leaves the body. The second death is an eternal death; a spiritual death, being banished forever from the presence of God in an eternal lake of fire. Hell will be cast into the lake of fire. Hence, hell is like a holding center. Then the guilty go to judgment, are sentenced, and go to the lake of fire which is like a prison; a permanent abode. Some religions teach that we ought to pray our loved ones into Heaven after they die and go to the “waiting area.” According to God’s Word, getting someone out of hell is beyond our control. They are there to stay because they chose to reject Jesus Christ as Saviour.

2 Thessalonians 1:6-9 – “Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;”

This is a very fearful thing, and it is repulsive to our human nature. No one of us comes close to understanding how unutterably holy God is, and how great His hatred is toward sin and rebellion. We should make an effort to understand this: 2 Corinthians 5:11 – “Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.”

When we begin to understand how holy and perfect God is, it makes us wonder how He could let any of us into Heaven! 1 Peter 4:17-18 – “For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?”

PRAISE THE LORD FOR JESUS CHRIST OUR SAVIOUR! We who are saved need not fear the second death. Again: “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.” (Revelation 20:6)

Where Will You Spend Eternity?

EternityEternity – We have seen the eternity of the dead (those lost in sins) described under “The Great White Throne Judgment” portion of this study. This posting will refer to the eternity that will be enjoyed by the Saved. It can best be described by the word “new.”

A. The New Heaven – “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” (Revelation 21:1)

1. A Place the Lord is Preparing for Us Now – “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2)

2. A Place of Treasure Laid Up for Us – “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:” (Matthew 6:20)

3. A Place where the Names of the Saved are Written – “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:20)

The following pictures were taken from here.

4. A Place of Many Mansions (John 14:2)

5. A Place where the Glory of God and Jesus can be Seen – “But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.” (Acts 7:55, 56)

6. A Place where All the Redeemed live in the Presence of God and Christ – “After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;” (Revelation 7:9) This will include people from all nations, kindreds, people and tongues.

B. The New Earth – “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.” (Revelation 21:1)

1. No More Sea (Revelation 21:1)

2. The Place where the New Jerusalem will be Transplanted (Revelation 21:1)

3. A Place where God Himself Will be with Us – ” And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.” (Revelation 21:3)

4. A Place of No Tears, Death, Sorrow, Crying or Pain – “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)

5. A Place that will Continue to have Nations and Kings – “And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there. And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it…In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.” (Revelation 21:24-26; 22:2) Christians who have earned the right to do so will continue to reign forever – “And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:…And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.” (Revelation 2:26; 22:5)

C. The New Jerusalem – “For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.” (Hebrews 13:14) See also Hebrews 10:9, 10; 15-16.

1. Names

a. New Jerusalem – “Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.” (Revelation 3:12) “And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” (Revelation 21:2)

b. The Holy City (Revelation 21:2)

c. The Holy Jerusalem – “And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.” (Revelation 21:10) Note: the present Jerusalem has become very unholy – “And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.” (Revelation 11:8)

d. The Tabernacle of God – “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.” (Revelation 21:3)

2. Location – “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.” (Revelation 21:1, 2) It will be transplanted from heaven where it is being build (John 14:2) to the New Earth (Revelation 21:9, 10) – “And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife. And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,” It is compared to twice as a bride prepared for her husband. Everything is perfect.

3. Description – (All told in Revelation 21) “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.
2   And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3   And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.
4   And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
5   And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.
6   And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.
7   He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.
8   But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
9   And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.
10   And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
11   Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
12   And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
13   On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
14   And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15   And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
16   And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
17   And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.
18   And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
19   And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
20   The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
21   And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
22   And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
23   And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
24   And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
25   And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
26   And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
27   And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

a. Lighting (Revelation 21:ll, 23, 24); and “And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever. (Revelation 22:5) The brilliancy of God’s Being will light heaven.

b. An Outer Wall (Revelation 21:12, 13) This wall goes around the city, on the outside.

i. It is four-sided (Revelation 21:13)

ii. There are three gates on each side (Revelation 21:13) Each gate has a name of one of the tribes of Israel on it. Angels are stationed at the gates at all times.

iii. It is approximately 216 feet high (Revelation 21:17) A man’s cubit is about 18 inches.

iv. It is made of jasper (Revelation 21:18)

c. The City Wall – The city is encompassed by a wall inside the outer wall. The dimensions of that wall are much greater than those of the outer wall.

i. It’s height, length, and width are equal (Revelation 21:16). They are 12,000 furlongs. A furlong is approximately 1/8 mile. Thus, the dimensions are foursquare: 1500 miles wide, 1500 miles long, 1500 miles high.

ii. It has 12 foundations (Revelation 21:14). Each one has the name of one of the Apostles of Christ on it. (Do not confuse this with the outer wall!)

iii. Each foundation is made of a different type of stone (Revelation 21:19-21).

d. Inside the City – Described in Revelation 21:18-27 – What is there?

i. Pure gold and streets of gold (Revelation 21:18, 21)

ii. The Lord God Almighty and the Lamb (Revelation 21:22)

iii. Pure river of water of life – “And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.” (Revelation 22:1)

iv. The tree of life – “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.” (Revelation 2:7) and “In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations…Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” (Revelation 22:2, 14)

v. Many Mansions – “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.” (John 14:2)

vi. The Saved (Revelation 21:24) and (Revelation 22:3, 4) – ” And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.”

NOTE: A comparison of Revelation 22:14 – “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.” and Revelation 22:19 – “And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” Seems to indicate that not every Christian is going to have total access to the Holy City. Only those that have earned it in this life. Let us strive to keep His works until the end – not for salvation, but for reward’s sake. “And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:” (Revelation 2:26)

D. New Everything – “And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new” (Revelation 21:5a) Compare Isaiah 65:17 – “For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”

E. A New Name – “Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off.” (Isaiah 56:5) See also Isaiah 62:2 – “And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.” and Revelation 2:17 – “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.” and Revelation 3:12 – “Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.” In the Bible, whenever God gave a new name to something or someone, it was an accurate description of that thing or person. What may God name you?

F. A New Song – “And they sung a new song…” (Revelation 5:9a), and also “And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.” (Revelation 14:3)

The Great White Throne Judgment

English: Saint Michael parish church in Unterg...

The Great White Throne Judgment

A. Resurrection of the Wicked Dead – Let us look at the facts of this resurrection and judgment:

1. This will take place right after:

a. The Millennium Reign of Christ on earth – “And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the devil, and satan, and bound him a thousand years, And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season. And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.” (Revelation 20:1-6)

b. The final overthrow of satan – “And when the thousand years are expired, satan shall be loosed out of his prison, and shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Ma-gog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” (Revelation 20:7-10)

Vision from Book of Revelation

c. The final war – “and shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Ma-gog, to gather them together to battle: the number of whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them.” (Revelation 20:8, 9)

2. There Will be a Great White Throne – “And I saw a great white throne;…” (Revelation 20:11a) The word “great” is a very general word (Greek meaning megas) which, appropriately in this text, means large.

3. God Himself Sits Upon this Throne – “And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.” (Revelation 20:11, 12) The earth and the heaven fled away from the presence of the great God. See Daniel 2:35; Isaiah 34:5; 2 Peter 3:10-12; Revelation 6:14.

4. This is a Judgment of the “Dead” (Revelation 20:12 above) – This refers to those that are dead in their trespasses and sins, not the saved. See Ephesians 2:1, 2; Romans 5:12; 6:23.

5. Both Small and Great Shall be There

a. Small (Greek – mikros) – Meaning small in size or dignity. Sometimes translated “little” in the English (for example: Matthew 10:42 and Matthew 18:14 – references to children).

b. Great (Greek – megas) – This is the same word as used in point 2 above, describing the White Throne. Great in dignity or stature (sometimes referring to adults).

6. They Will Stand Before God Himself (Revelation 20:12).

7. The Books Will be Opened (Revelation 20:12) The Bible is the “books” mentioned here. “A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousand thousands ministered unto him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set and the books were opened.” (Daniel 7:10) See also John 12:48. The word “Bible” means “library.” It contains 66 books. God is going to judge man by the Bible. Man is responsible to know God’s Word and is accountable for what it says. Having rejected the finished work of Christ, the dead will be judged according to their works. No man’s works are good enough to save his own soul. Read Isaiah 64:6; Ephesians 2:8, 9; Titus 3:5.

8. Another Book is Opened – the Book of Life (Revelation 20:12)

a. Those written in the Book are God’s people – “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.”  (Daniel 12:1) “Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” (Luke 10:20) It is the present condition of the saved to have their names in the Book of Life. Also see Philippians 4:3; Hebrews 12:23.

b. Those in the Book have a passport to the New Jerusalem – “And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” (Revelation 21:27) Having one’s name written in the Lamb’s Book of Life is a passport to enter the New Jerusalem, God’s Holy City.

c. To be written in the Book of Life, one must be saved – Compare Revelation 3:5 “He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.” to 1 John 5:4, 5 “For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” Those who are saved have had their sins cleansed in the Blood of Jesus Christ (Revelation 1:5) and the Lord does not impute sin to their account (Romans 4:7, 8).

d. Sinners Will be Blotted Out of the Book of Life – Exodus 32:33 tell us that initially the name of every human being is in the Book of Life – “And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.” But any person who has one sin imputed to them will be blotted out of this Book. Sin is imputed to those who reject Jesus as God’s Son, because they are also rejecting God and sinning against Him.

e. Those blotted out of the Book of Life are the devil’s people – “And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.” (Revelation 13:8) and “The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.” (Revelation 17:8) I have heard this explained in this way, everyone’s name is penciled into the Book of Life, and when we get saved, they are written over in ink. Those who reject Jesus are not in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

9. The Resurrection of the Dead – “And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.” (Revelation 20:13)

a. The sea gave up the dead. This is a reference to the resurrection of the body.

b. Death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them. This is a reference to the resurrection of the soul. “Death and Hell” are inseparable for the unsaved. See Psalms 55:15; Proverbs 5:5; Revelation 6:8, and Revelation 20:14. These are delivered up to the Great White Throne Judgment.

B. The Second Death

1. Death and Hell are Cast into the Lake of Fire. “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” (Revelation 20:14)

a. Death – 1 Corinthians 15:26 tells us that death is the last enemy that shall be destroyed “The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.”

b. Hell – Hell has been the “holding center” for the dead lost, before they are cast into the Lake of Fire.

c. This process is called “the second death.” “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.” (Revelation 20:14)

i. The first death is physical death

ii. The second death is eternal punishment – “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.” (Revelation 2:11); “Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.” (Revelation 20:6); “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8); “These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;” (Jude 1:12)

Lake of Fire

2. All Unbelievers are Cast into the Lake of Fire. “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:15)
