The Doctrine of Jesus – Part 4

The Deity of Jesus Christ – Part 3 Jesus Christ is Omnipotent (All Powerful)

Isaiah 9:6 “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

Matthew 28:18 ” And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.”

John 17:2 “As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.”

Revelation 1:8 “I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”

Revelation 19:6-7 “And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.”

G. Jesus Christ is Omniscient (All Knowing)

John 16:30 “Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.”

John 2:24-25 “But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.”

Colossians 2:2-3 “That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Matthew 12:25 “And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:”

Luke 6:8 “But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.”

There is only one thing that Jesus does not know. By His own willing subjection to the Father, He has left to His Father only to know the time of His return for His bride, the church: Mark 13:32 “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.” Although His Father did allow Jesus to share the signs we are to notice as the time draws nigh, He keeps the exact timing to Himself.

Jesus is omnipotent in that He can do anything, and He even has the ability to limit His knowledge in this one area. Think of it this way – if He could not limit Himself, He would not be all powerful. By not knowing when He will return for His Bride, the Church, Jesus sets an example for all sons to be obedient to their fathers in regards to choosing a wife and the timing for marriage. If this example were followed in our families today, there would be much less divorce. Wait for your father’s blessing and permission! You will be truly blessed in the end. Jesus is Omnipresent (All and Ever Present)

1 Corinthians 1:2 “Unto the church of God which is at Corinth, to them that are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all that in every place call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both their’s and our’s:”

Ephesians 1:22-23 “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.”

Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Matthew 28:20 “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”

John 3:13 “And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.”

Jesus is transcendent to both time and place. He can be everywhere at one time. He can be sitting on the right hand of the Father on High (Acts 2:33), and dwelling in our hearts (Ephesians 3:17) all at the same time! Also know that satan, God’s enemy, does not have these powers!

I. Jesus Chris is Immutable (Unchangeable)

Hebrews 1:11-12 “They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.”

Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

Doctrine of the Holy Spirit – Part 1

Introduction: We will develop our beliefs about the Holy Spirit by studying Him and His working, strictly from God’s Holy Word-the King James Version, in 6 parts:

1. The Deity of the Holy Spirit

2. The Personality of the Holy Spirit

3. The Ministries of the Holy Spirit

4. The Names, Titles and Symbols of the Holy Spirit

5. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit

6. The Fruit of the Holy Spirit

I. The Deity of the Holy Spirit – the Holy Spirit, though He is a tremendous power and influence in the emotions and will of people, nevertheless – above all else – is a Person, and that Person is God!

A. He is called God – Acts 5:3-4 “But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.” 2 Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.”

B. He is part of the Trinity –  1 John 5:7 ” For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” Matthew 28:20 “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:” Notice the word “name” (singular), not “names” (plural). Matthew 3:16-17 “And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 4:1 “Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.” 2 Corinthians 13:14 “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen.” 1 Peter 1:2 “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.” Notice the equality shared by the Holy Spirit with the Father and the Son.

C. He is Omnipresent – Meaning He is all present or present everywhere at once. John 14:16 “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;” Psalm 139:7 “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?”

D. He is Omniscient – He is all-knowing. John 14:26 “But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” 1 Corinthians 2:10-11 “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.”

E. He is Omnipotent – He is all powerful with unlimited power. Job 33:4 “The spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.” Genesis 1:2 “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the  face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.” Job 26:13 “By his spirit he hath garnished the heavens; his hand hath formed the crooked serpent.” Psalm 104:30 “Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.”

F. He is Eternal – Hebrews 9:14 “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?”

II. The Personality of the Holy Spirit – The Holy Spirit of God is a Person, just as much as the Father and Son are Persons. Therefore, He experiences all of the elements involved within a personality.

A. He is male – John 16:13 “Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” Jesus called the Holy Spirit “He,” “Him,” or “Himself” 20 times in John 14-16. We also find how He is referred to in the male gender in Hebrews 10:15; 1 Corinthians 12:11; 2 Thessalonians 2:7; and Acts 13:2.

B. He has a mind – Romans 8:27 “And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

C. He has a will – 1 Corinthians 12:11 “But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.”

D. He forbids – Acts 16:6-7 “Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.”

E. He permits – Acts 16:10 “And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.”

F. He speaks – Acts 8:29 “Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.” See also Acts 10:19; 13:2; Revelation 2:7; 3:6, 13, 22; 11:17, 29

G. He loves – Romans 15:30 “Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;”

H. He grieves – Ephesians 4:30 “And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.”

I. He prays – Romans 8:26 “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”
