God is Faithful

How wonderfully less stressful it can be for us if we truly understand that our great God Jehovah is indeed faithful to His children. He may not always answer when or how we think He should, but remember, He knows everything. We do not.

Today’s verses are more of God’s faithful promises to us as expressed by David the Psalmist. Isn’t it uplifting that with all of God’s promises, come His blessings as well?

Psalm 40:1-4:

1 “I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.” (It can be very difficult for us humans to wait patiently on the LORD, especially in times that we think are times of dire need. If we will stop in those moments and turn to His promises in His Word, we will see these promises and therefore we are more able to wait patiently. I could not help by notice how David used the word ‘inclined’ -Bend or turn (one’s ear) towards a speaker in order to listen well. I am ever amazed at how our Lord God and Creator of all things values each and every one of us so much that He is ever listening well to our petitions and our thoughts. Oh how He loves us!)

2 “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.” (There are times in ALL our lives when we may stumble or wander off the straight and narrow. The consequences can hold us in sinful bondage that is likened to a horrible pit of miry clay. When I think back on those times in my own life, I still experience the darkness that came with the sin of having returned to the evils of this world, and I tremble and pray, “Lord please never let me go there again, no matter what happens in this life.” It was His Spirit that convicted and convinced me of my need to repent and remember my First Love in Christ, and He did indeed set my feet upon His Rock, just as we as parents pick our children up when they fall, and set them back on their feet. He establishes my goings each day. I just need to spend time with Him and listen.)

3 “And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.” (Oh my, how He does put a new song in our hearts, and when we sing it, or live it out in our lives, others notice and have a reverencing fear that leads them to trust in God also. They want what we have. “Oh How He Loves You and Me!”)

4 “Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.” (Once we decide to accept Jesus Christ as Lord of our lives, we will be constantly attacked by our enemy and God’s enemy whom I will not even name. We all know who that is. Many times he will work through the pride and lies of others. But, if we make the LORD our trust, and give no ear to them, His power will overcome. The enemy is very good at placing thoughts in our minds, but we must remember that Jesus gave us His helmet at our Salvation. He won the battle of the mind on the Cross! We must daily put on the whole armor of God as laid out in Ephesians 6. At the name of Jesus and Jehovah God, evil MUST flee!)

God is Our Refuge and Strength

Wow! Another wonderful promise from God’s Word! How comforting and stress-free it is when we take hold of promises like this instead of trying to muddle through life on our own. I am trying to get better at memorizing verses God leads me to in areas He knows I need help in; things I need to totally give to Him. He calls them to my mind when I need them most.

I also started a little book of promises from His Word that has been so very helpful to me when my mind will not shut up and listen. This is one of them:

Psalm 46:1-3 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.”

Loving God’s Promises

Each New Year brings me reminders of the many wonderful promises God gives us in His Word. I cannot think of a better way to begin afresh than to look at some of those promises.

Today’s promise comes from Psalm 145:13, 18

“Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations…The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.”

Isn’t it great to know that God’s Kingdom is everlasting (forever and ever) and that His dominion (God has all power and authority) endures throughout all generations.

Notice how David did not stop at, “The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him,” he added “to all that call upon him in truth.” God is always near and ready to hear and answer our prayers. If God answers the desires of all living things, as it is written in verse 16 of this chapter, how much more will He fulfill the desires of those who fear (reverence and obey) Him?! As Matthew Henry said, “…he that feeds his birds will not starve his babes.” He will hear the prayers of His children who are striving to live right and obey His Word. We cannot hold on to any sin and expect God to hear our prayers. All sin breaks our fellowship with our Holy God.

So we can trust that God Jehovah will always be in control and have all authority over all things in this world. I know there are times when we find that hard to believe. Times when it may seem as though evil is winning. Trust me, it is not! God promises us that He is THE authority. And we know how the story ends!

Thank you Lord for your promise that your great kingdom and your control and authority will reign forever! We have an enemy and he knows that his time is short. We have a wonderful hope that his time will end and he is the great loser!

AND GOD NEVER LIES!

An Everlasting Joy!

It may be difficult for our human psyche to grasp the word everlasting. Our finite minds just cannot completely understand. It is forever and forever and forever…

I am reading Isaiah and part of this morning’s reading was Chapter 51:9-11:

“9 Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of the LORD; awake, as in the ancient days, in the generations of old. Art thou not it that hath cut Rahab, and wounded the dragon?
10 Art thou not it which hath dried the sea, the waters of the great deep; that hath made the depths of the sea a way for the ransomed to pass over?
11 Therefore the redeemed of the LORD shall return, and come with singing unto Zion; and everlasting joy shall be upon their head: they shall obtain gladness and joy; and sorrow and mourning shall flee away.”

Now if those words do not get your hearts pounding with great hope for our eternal destiny as children of God Jehovah, I don’t know what ever would! And look at the last phrase – “sorrow and mourning shall flee away.” What great hope we have in God’s wonderful promises!

The Seed of Hope in the Promises of God

As we take a look at just a few of the very many promises God gives us in His Word, I am led to share a few words on the subject. The Bible is filled with the precious promises of God to His children. In fact, there are as many as 30,000 different promises recorded in Scripture. They are simple and sure! Because of who God is, His Word can be trusted!

A promise is the pledge to another to fulfill a specified act. Scripture memorializes God’s promises: by God to His children in John 14:13 “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”, by God to Jesus in John 13:3-5 “Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God; He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.”, by one individual to another in Nehemiah 5:12 “Then said they, We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest. Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise.”, and by a believer to God in Ecclesiastes 5:4-10 “When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that it was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thine hands? For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God. If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they. Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field. He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.” Christians are invited to claim God’s promises related to forgiveness, heaven, the Holy Spirit, answered prayer, guidance, comfort, and protection.

While the promises of God are given to all believers, they do carry a few stipulations, and rightfully so! God’s children must humble ourselves, pray, seek God’s will, and turn from evil in order to receive God’s promises – 2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” Oh how our country so needs to go to their knees and claim this promise! The fulfillment of God’s promises is directly related to the obedient responses of God’s children. There is great hope in the promises of God!
