Tidbits from the Book of James – Part 3

Image result for images of gods church

Great tidbits on dealing with wrath/anger in times of trial and stress, being doers and not just hearers of the Word, liberty but not to sin, and what religion really means.

James 1:19-27

19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: (During our trials, or in times of dispute with others, our flesh’s first reaction is to become angry, but anger is most counter-productive at those times. We must remember to take a breath and have a little talk with Jesus and ask Him what He may be teaching us during these times. If we are in a dispute with someone, it is best to walk away and take some time to chill so we do not say things we will regret and cannot take back. I have had my share of flying off the handle and before I know it, ugliness has come spewing forth from my mouth and I have had to go back and ask forgiveness. In any event, it behooves us much to cool down and get with God before allowing our anger to cause us to sin.)

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. (This is just common sense. If we give way to our wrath, God’s righteousness cannot abide in us, as with any sin we allow in our lives.)

21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. (Here our Lord implores us to lay apart, and to cast off as a filthy garment, all sinful actions and habits. It includes sinful thoughts that lead to sinful actions as well as our words. His Spirit and His Word empower us to then “receive with meekness” His engrafted Word. Engrafted=Cause to grow together; Fix or set securely or deeply.)

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: (In a glass, blurry, unclear)

24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. (If we were to have the privilege of listening to a sermon given by an angel from Heaven every day of the week, but, we heard it only, that would never get us to heaven. Hearing without the doing makes us mere self-deceivers; and self-deceit is the worst deceit of all. When we dedicate private time to God’s Word it will reveal to each of us our corrupt nature, what our priorities are, and it will tell us plainly what we are. Once our sins are revealed, it is of utmost importance that we go to Jesus for forgiveness and cleansing and make the needed changes. If we go away, and ignore what God has revealed through His Word, instead of washing them off and applying what He shows us, we hear in vain. This is speaking of those who do not hear the word as they ought.)

25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. (In hearing the word, we look into it for guidance and direction, and as we study it, it points to our spiritual life. As we are shown the things we need to work on, we make the needed changes in our character so as to continue to be more and more like Jesus. So, when we stay in the Word of God and let it influence us spiritually we are, and shall be, blessed in all our ways.)

26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain. (Oh boy, we sure could say a lot about the smallest member of our body and the tremendous harm that we are capable of doing–oh the power of our words! It takes a strong walk with the Lord and the power of His Holy Spirit to help us bridle our tongues.)

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world. (Ahh, this word religion can really be misinterpreted, usually by those who are convicted by the Holy Spirit about it. They will use it to justify their lack of a true relationship with Jesus. How often do we hear, “I do not believe in organized religion because of the hypocrites, or I was hurt so badly at my last church.” But they have no problem going other places where there are hypocrites and mean people who hurt us. For are there not hypocrites, and all types of characters, every where we go? And they do not stop us from going there!

But that is not what God is speaking of here. The reason for going to church is so that we may sit under the teaching and preaching of a true man of God who preaches from God’s one true Word, the King James Bible, without watering it down for ‘itching ears.’ Once we are saved, we need to grow stronger in our relationship with Jesus, and a truly Godly church and Pastor will help us do that. The purpose of God’s church is to save souls from hell, and to teach His Children so that they can go and tell the Good News to others. We also have the prayers, love, and support of our brothers and sisters in Christ during tough times. True religion teaches us that we must do every thing as if we are we are in God’s presence, for once we are born-again, His Holy Spirit comes to live in us and He experiences everything we do. That is why we try to keep ourselves “unspotted” from the world and try to do good things like visiting the fatherless and widows and help them in their affliction.

Beware of False Prophets-Know God’s True Word

Do Not Be Deceived

I am reading in Matthew 24 and 25 the past few days. I love the promise Jesus gives us in Chapter 24:22 “And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.” We can easily find, because the internet is so full of anything you can imagine and find, false doctrines being pushed that the Rapture will happen after the Great Tribulation. I just have to shake my head and laugh at such foolishness. They are in essence calling Jesus a liar. Then look at what Matthew 24:31 says, “And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” The angels shall gather God’s elect/children/saints from one end of heaven to the other! How did they get there? Why, by the Rapture or the catching up together to meet Jesus in the air, 1 Thessalonians 4:15-18 “For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.” Yes, we ought to be comforted and comfort others with these true Scriptures of God’s Word, instead of twisting them into deceitful lies.

And immediately after Jesus says that His elect will be spared, he tells them of signs to watch for, verses 23-27 “Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. Behold, I have told you before. Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not. For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

I notice every time there is an eclipse or a super moon, etc. the heretics come out of the woodwork trying to deceive people more, and unfortunately, even some of His elect are falling for it. They like to quote the Scriptures that say “the sun will be darkened and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken,” to try and get people to believe that we are now in the Great Tribulation. We are not because God’s Spirit in His children is still here. But take note of the words they leave out that come right before that verse, Matthew 24:29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days…” These things are to happen AFTER the tribulation.

If you believe that God’s Spirit through His church has already been taken from this earth, you are sadly deceived as well. Believe you me, things are going to be horribly abominable and sinful after God’s Spirit is removed from this earth. This earth will no longer have God’s fervent praying children crying out for mercy for mankind. Those left behind will go through such awful times that this world has never seen because our enemy and God’s enemy will have full control of this world. Just as hell was not created for man but for satan, the tribulation is not meant for God’s saints but for those who chose to reject Christ as God’s Son and the Saviour of this world. The tribulation is meant to try and change those hardened hearts to see that God is God and Jesus is His Son and Jesus came to save man from hell. And some will turn and accept Jesus as Saviour because of those horrible things to come. How sad that they will not do it now.

Forever Thankful!

I have been under the weather for several days now. I was not up to joining my brethren at Faith Baptist Church this Sunday. But, I am so thankful that the sermons are recorded on our church website!

Thank you Pastor Rainey and all those involved in recording and uploading these wonderful Biblical teachings! One was the Sunday School lesson and the other was the morning service message.

Let Not Man Put Asunder

Take it to the Lord

As you can see, there are many other messages you may listen to and learn straight from God’s KJV Word.

Enjoy! I sure did.

We Must Take Care Not to Mislead

Image result for images for teaching children truth

If there is one thing that really makes me indignant it is when adults feel the need to share what “they” believe instead of what God’s Word says when a child asks a valid question. They need the truth, especially as they get older. I was instructed many years ago as a Sunday School teacher of what God’s Word tells us about taking care not to mislead these young ones in Matthew 18:6 “But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.” Yes, I take very seriously how I answer children’s questions. If I am not sure of an answer, I let them know I’m not sure, and I sit down with them and with God’s Word as we pray and seek His direction. I want them to know how to find answers for themselves.

Not long ago a youth very close to me asked me the question, “When our pets die, do they go to Heaven?” Now, no matter how much I wanted to tell him yes because that’s what we all want to believe, I felt that he trusted me to give him the truth. So I showed him what the Bible says about the spirits of humans and animals at the time of death: Death is the departure of the spirit from the body in humans and animals. Ecclesiastes 3:21 tells us “Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?” I used to think that my beloved pets went to Heaven when they died; as children need to believe, I guess. I even read as far as I could in a book a Christian wrote once on the subject. It did not take me long to see that the author had taken a lot of verses out of context to try and prove his point.

That author also neglected the truth that animals do not have souls. Death is also the departure of the soul from a human. There are two invisible beings inside of us: a spirit and a soul. When Jesus died on the Cross, His spirit went to Heaven (Luke 23:46), and His soul went into hell, or the heart of the earth, “Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.” (Acts 2:27, 31) Jesus went to get the Saints who had passed before Him, from Abraham’s bosom. The spirit and soul are distinctly different and both leave the body at death: 1 Kings 17:21-22, ” And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child’s soul come into him again. And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.” Animals do not have souls, only humans do. Animals have spirits. Animals also do not have the reasoning power in their brains to know about being a sinner and needing and accepting The Saviour is the only way to Heaven as humans do. Although there will be animals in Heaven, they will not be our dearly departed pets.

Later, this young man came back to me after visiting another adult in his life who said she did not agree with what I had told him. I asked him if she showed him in God’s Word where it says animals go to Heaven, or why she believes they do? He said, “No, she just said she did not agree with you.” I sensed his hurt and disappointment because she is someone he looks up to also, and I felt angry that this person, because of her ill feelings and envies toward me, would so nonchalantly let those feelings come across to an innocent child. Children are so very perceptive of these things, and it can be quite damaging to them. It’s just like when a couple gets divorced and the judge tells them not to demean each other in front of the children. What typically ends up happening is the children will grow to dislike or even hate the person who does this.

Since I would never speak ill of this person to this child, I prayed in my spirit for the Lord to help me lovingly reiterate what and why I had told him my answer to his question in the first place. I asked him if he wanted to pray with me that the Lord will show her the truth, because he was so concerned. We talked about how we can all have pre-conceived ideas about things and not know that we are wrong according to God’s Word, until someone shows us the truth. We also talked about how it is okay for people to disagree, but not to try and force our beliefs. I do not believe that this subject is a huge deal that needs debating or arguing about. Being wrong about this will not keep someone from going to Heaven. At God’s direction, we are to share God’s truth and leave it in His hands. I am still praying that the Lord will speak to that person and convict her of how she influences these young ones.

Do Not Let Yourselves Be Deceived

Image result for images for king james bible

I am ever confounded by so many who choose to stay deceived about the many different versions of the Bible. I call these over 300 versions perversions written by man, not God. For men have gotten together and hacked and twisted God’s true Word, the King James Holy Bible, to suit the many different needs of those who stay in whatever sin they are in. Remember what Revelation 22:18, 19 tells us, and it is not to be taken lightly: “For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.” For those who are duped into believing that these other perversions are easier to understand, do you not know that the KJV was written on a 5th-6th grade level? Many who have realized the truth will be the first to tell you that the other versions are actually the ones that are very confusing.

In 1998 my husband and I were shown just the tip of the iceberg about how the NIV has corrupted God’s Word. We see in the incorruptible KJV that Jesus is the Morning Star:

Revelation 22:16 “I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.”

The NIV comes close to that: “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”

Yet the NIV corrupts it this way in Isaiah 14:12:

“How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations!” TALK ABOUT CONFUSING!!

Compare that to the true KJV of Isaiah 14:12:

“How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!”

If you really want to do your own research and find the truth, not just something on the internet that backs up what you choose to believe, I challenge you to check it out for yourselves:

Manhood and Womanhood According to Scripture

These passages, from Job and Proverbs, show examples for us to live with Godly character in our manhood and womanhood.

Image result for images for godly character

Job was a great example of how to be Men of Integrity:

Standing in God’s presence – Job 31:4 – “Doth not he see my ways, and count all my steps?”

Exemplifying Integrity – Job 31:5, 6 – “If I have walked with vanity, or if my foot hath hasted to deceit; Let me be weighed in an even balance that God may know mine integrity.”

Committing to Personal Purity – Job 31:7-12 – “If my step hath turned out of the way, and mine heart walked after mine eyes, and if any blot hath cleaved to mine hands; Then let me sow, and let another eat; yea, let my offspring be rooted out. If mine heart have been deceived by a woman, or if I have laid wait at my neighbour’s door; Then let my wife grind unto another, and let others bow down upon her. For this is an heinous crime; yea, it is an iniquity to be punished by the judges. For it is a fire that consumeth to destruction, and would root out all mine increase.”

Reflecting Justice in all Dealings – Job 31:13-15 – “If I did despise the cause of my manservant or of my maidservant, when they contended with me; What then shall I do when God riseth up? and when he visiteth, what shall I answer him? Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?”

Giving Generously to Others and Showing Compassion to All – Job 31:16-22 – “If I have withheld the poor from their desire, or have caused the eyes of the widow to fail; Or have eaten my morsel myself alone, and the fatherless hath not eaten thereof; (For from my youth he was brought up with me, as with a father, and I have guided her from my mother’s womb;) If I have seen any perish for want of clothing, or any poor without covering; If his loins have not blessed me, and if he were not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; If I have lifted up my hand against the fatherless, when I saw my help in the gate: Then let mine arm fall from my shoulder blade, and mine arm be broken from the bone.”

Setting Godly Priorities in Life – Job 31:23-25 – “For destruction from God was a terror to me, and by reason of his highness I could not endure. If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, Thou art my confidence; If I rejoice because my wealth was great, and because mine hand had gotten much;”

Living out Faith in God – Job 31:26-28 – “If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness; And my heart hath been secretly enticed, or my mouth hath kissed my hand: This also were an iniquity to be punished by the judge: for I should have denied the God that is above.”

Forgiving Others Without Holding a Grudge – Job 31:29, 30 – “If I rejoice at the destruction of him that hated me, or lifted up myself when evil found him: Neither have I suffered my mouth to sin by wishing a curse to his soul.”

Opening His Home to the Needy – Job 31:31, 32 – “If the men of my tabernacle said not, Oh that we had of his flesh! we cannot be satisfied. The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.”

Walking with the Lord – Job 31:33-37 – “If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom: Did I fear a great multitude, or did the contempt of families terrify me, that I kept silence, and went not out of the door? Oh that one would hear me! behold, my desire is, that the Almighty would answer me, and that mine adversary had written a book. Surely I would take it upon my shoulder, and bind it as a crown to me. I would declare unto him the number of my steps; as a prince would I go near unto him.”

Seeking to do Right – Job 31:38-40 – “If my land cry against me, or that the furrows likewise thereof complain; If I have eaten the fruits thereof without money, or have caused the owners thereof to lose their life: Let thistles grow instead of wheat, and cockle instead of barley. The words of Job are ended.”

Solomon Teaches How we Women can live with Godly Character in Proverbs:

Managing her Household Well – Proverbs 31:10-12 – “Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.”

Working Willingly with her Hands – Proverbs 31:13 – “She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.”

Serving Her Household – Proverbs 31:14, 15 – “She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.”

Investing Wisely – Proverbs 31:16 – “She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.”

Strengthening Herself Through Proper Care of her Body and Spirit – Proverbs 31:17 – “She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.”

Using her Gifts Consistently and Creatively – Proverbs 31:18, 19 – “She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.”

Giving Generously to the Poor – Proverbs 31:20 – “She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.” (Notice it says, “needy” not those who choose to beg instead of work.)

Protecting her Children – Proverbs 31:21 – “She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.”

Dressing Herself Attractively but Modestly – Proverbs 31:22 – “She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.”

Representing her Husband Well – Proverbs 31:23 – “Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.”

Using her Time and Energies Efficiently – Proverbs 31:24 – “She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.”

Exhibiting a Spirit of Optimism – Proverbs 31:25 – “Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.”

Speaking with Wisdom and Kindness – Proverbs 31:26 – “She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.”

Exemplifying Faithfulness and Excellence – Proverbs 31:27-29 – “She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.”

Receiving Praise for her Work – Proverbs 31:30, 31 – “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.”

Now, these are the best guidelines we will find anywhere for living our lives with Godly character. As I read through each of these examples for me to try to emulate as a woman, I must admit that I am definitely lacking in several areas. It was good for me to be reminded to try to do my best to be a better example for my Lord and not be an embarrassment to Him. I am encouraged that God Almighty would choose me to be a shining light for Him.

And the Earth Groans Under Mankind’s Sin

I have to chuckle at these fools like Al Gore who push a false agenda of so-called global warming so that he can profit from it. I believe what we witness today and see growing worse each year is the continued groaning of the earth. It is the groaning of the pain it experiences from the initial sin of mankind in the Garden that brought about the curse on all of God’s creation. It is that groaning that will continue to get worse as our sin grows worse. When God returns, He will make an end of our sin and an end of the groanings. He will make a New Heaven and a New Earth. Isaiah speaks of this in Chapter 24. (Matthew Henry’s Concise Comments added)

Isaiah 24

1 Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof.
2 And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the lender, so with the borrower; as with the taker of usury, so with the giver of usury to him.
3 The land shall be utterly emptied, and utterly spoiled: for the LORD hath spoken this word.
4 The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the haughty people of the earth do languish.
5 The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant.
6 Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are desolate: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left.
7 The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merryhearted do sigh.
8 The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth.
9 They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it.
10 The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.
11 There is a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.
12 In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. (All whose treasures and happiness are laid up on earth, will soon be brought to want and misery. It is good to apply to ourselves what the Scripture says of the vanity and vexation of spirit which attend all things here below. Sin has turned the earth upside down; the earth is become quite different to man, from what it was when God first made it to be his habitation. It is, at the best, like a flower, which withers in the hands of those that please themselves with it, and lay it in their bosoms. The world we live in is a world of disappointment, a vale of tears; the children of men in it are but of few days, and full of trouble, See the power of God’s curse, how it makes all empty, and lays waste all ranks and conditions. Sin brings these calamities upon the earth; it is polluted by the sins of men, therefore it is made desolate by God’s judgments. Carnal joy will soon be at end, and the end of it is heaviness. God has many ways to imbitter wine and strong drink to those who love them; distemper of body, anguish of mind, and the ruin of the estate, will make strong drink bitter, and the delights of sense tasteless. Let men learn to mourn for sin, and rejoice in God; then no man, no event, can take their joy from them.)

13 When thus it shall be in the midst of the land among the people, there shall be as the shaking of an olive tree, and as the gleaning grapes when the vintage is done.
14 They shall lift up their voice, they shall sing for the majesty of the LORD, they shall cry aloud from the sea.
15 Wherefore glorify ye the LORD in the fires, even the name of the LORD God of Israel in the isles of the sea. (There shall be a remnant preserved from the general ruin, and it shall be a devout and pious remnant. These few are dispersed; like the gleanings of the olive tree, hid under the leaves. The Lord knows those that are his; the world does not. When the mirth of carnal worldlings ceases, the joy of the saints is as lively as ever, because the covenant of grace, the fountain of their comforts, and the foundation of their hopes, never fails. Those who rejoice in the Lord can rejoice in tribulation, and by faith may triumph when all about them are in tears. They encourage their fellow-sufferers to do likewise, even those who are in the furnace of affliction. Or, in the valleys, low, dark, miry places. In every fire, even the hottest, in every place, even the remotest, let us keep up our good thoughts of God. If none of these trials move us, then we glorify the Lord in the fires.)

16 From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs, even glory to the righteous. But I said, My leanness, my leanness, woe unto me! the treacherous dealers have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous dealers have dealt very treacherously.
17 Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth.
18 And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows from on high are open, and the foundations of the earth do shake.
19 The earth is utterly broken down, the earth is clean dissolved, the earth is moved exceedingly.
20 The earth shall reel to and fro like a drunkard, and shall be removed like a cottage; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it; and it shall fall, and not rise again.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall punish the host of the high ones that are on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth.
22 And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison, and after many days shall they be visited.
23 Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed, when the LORD of hosts shall reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem, and before his ancients gloriously. (Believers may be driven into the uttermost parts of the earth; but they are singing, not sighing. Here is terror to sinners; the prophet laments the miseries he saw breaking in like a torrent; and the small number of believers. He foresees that sin would abound. The meaning is plain, that evil pursues sinners. Unsteady, uncertain are all these things. Worldly men think to dwell in the earth as in a palace, as in a castle; but it shall be removed like a cottage, like a lodge put up for the night. It shall fall and not rise again; but there shall be new heavens and a new earth, in which shall dwell nothing but righteousness. Sin is a burden to the whole creation; it is a heavy burden, under which it groans now, and will sink at last. The high ones, that are puffed up with their grandeur, that think themselves out of the reach of danger, God will visit for their pride and cruelty. Let us judge nothing before the time, though some shall be visited. None in this world should be secure, though their condition be ever so prosperous; nor need any despair, though their condition be ever so deplorable. God will be glorified in all this. But the mystery of Providence is not yet finished. The ruin of the Redeemer’s enemies must make way for his kingdom, and then the Sun of Righteousness will appear in full glory. Happy are those who take warning by the sentence against others; every impenitent sinner will sink under his transgression, and rise no more, while believers enjoy everlasting bliss.)
